A few Code Requirements and pieces of valuable information:

Furnaces Within Crawl Spaces

Immediately upon entering the crawl space, there must be a light switch mounted with easy access, and wired independently of the furnace power wiring. The light switch operates a standard light bulb The light bulb must be located on the Control-side of the furnace for quick and easy viewing and servicing.

All Furnaces
Furnaces located In basements or crawl spaces need to be wired with a ground wire and running to a dedicated circuit breaker within the Electric Service Panel.

Furnace power wiring must have a fused switch placed in-line, and within immediate access of the furnace location.

All furnaces placed in crawl spaces need to sit on a concrete slab at least 3 inches in height off the ground surface.

All Furnace gas lines need to be installed with a capped condensate "drip leg" and the gas line piping must have a flex connector leading directly to the furnace gas valve connection

All furnace installations being changed-out, altered or modified, must now have combustion-air piping. Two 6 inch combustion-air metal pipes installed to the furnace location. In basements, one pipe will be terminated high within a foot or so of the joist space and one pipe will terminate low within 12-18 inches of the floor level.

Furnaces with a 4 inch flue pipe coming off the furnace and which is joined in-line with a 3 inch gas hot water tank flue pipe, must have a B-Vent piping going directly into the chimney not exceeding 7 inched in diameter. 80% and higher efficiency furnaces burn with lower flue temperatures and if the B-Vent piping is too large, condensation will occur and can cause damage to the furnace and eventually to your chimney grouting.

Whole House Central Air Conditioning
In your basement or crawl space, when a central air conditioning system is installed, you have an evaporative coil installed within the supply-side plenum of your furnace. This indoor coil will create a small amount of condensation, which is a normal function of the system. The indoor coil needs to be drained to a floor drain or by use of a condensate pump, the condensation needs to be drained to a sink, washing machine drain or outside to a flower bed or outside ground surface.

All whole house central air conditioner outside Condensers (the outside unit) must sit on a pad, which is to be a minimum of three inches in height off the ground surface. Three inches off earth or concrete surfaces.

All central air conditioning systems must be wired to a dedicated circuit breaker within the Electric Service Panel or a sub-panel that meets local electrical code requirements.

All central air conditioning system outside condenser units must be wired to a outdoor emergency disconnect fused switch when greater than 10 feet from the main electric service panel or when obstructed from direct access to the electric service panel access within 10 feet of the Outdoor condenser.

Swamp Coolers
Evaporative coolers must be wired to a dedicated circuit breaker within the Electric Service Panel of your home and can not be shared with other electric wiring systems.

Certain rooftop unit installation height requirements, flashing and sealing requirements apply within the Denver, Colorado city boundaries.
